QUINTESSENCE (2016)

  Dissolve. Burn. Wave. Bury. Conceal.

Inspired by the four elements of earth, fire, water, and air, Quintessence tapped into the ‘fifth’ element that is ethereal and unexplainable. Quintessence premiered at SAFEhouse Arts in January 2016 and included a collaborative short film by designer Peter Clark, live music, poetry, and movement. The short film was also screened at the San Francisco International Dance Film Festival.

Local dance critic Heather Desaulniers wrote “…An evening of contemporary dance performance by a choreographer whose work was brand new to me; someone who has great ingenuity and promise in the areas of design, concept, composition and direction. In the years to come, Brannigan will definitely be a choreographic force to watch.”

In collaboration with Khala Brannigan, a dancer and choreographer, I created a short film for her 'Quintessence' exhibition, performed in San Francisco, California. The film honors how much inspiration I've been given by California's unique natural environments and how these dancers react to the same elements with creative movement. Dedicated to Linda Kuhn, for giving me life and inspiration to live.
